Commissioned by the City of Amsterdam, a versatile outdoor sports zone has been realized at Sportpark Middenmeer. The new exercise strip is located between the sports fields and offers space for basketball, calisthenics, trampolines, and free movement. This makes the location a valuable addition to the existing sports facilities of HC Athena, football club GeuzenMiddenmeer, and the after-school care of Woest Zuid.
The design was developed by Kragten and is based on the Athletics Skills Model. This vision has resulted in an active outdoor space where various forms of movement, meeting, and development come together.
The Challenge
The City of Amsterdam wanted to make better use of the available space at Sportpark Middenmeer and develop it into a multifunctional exercise area for various users. The desire was to create a zone that not only connects to the existing sports clubs but also encourages independent movement, play, and training.
The design also had to fit within the existing sports environment. The exercise strip needed to logically connect to the hockey and football fields, be safe and accessible for different ages, and offer sufficient space for both organized and free sports activities.
Our solution
The Athletics Skills Model was used as the starting point for the design of the exercise track. This model focuses on versatile movement and the development of motor skills. As a result, a single sports facility was not chosen, but rather a combination of elements that can be used in different ways.
KSP was responsible for the construction of the track. Within this layout, SKOR supplied and installed, among other things, a 3x3 basketball court, a calisthenics station and trampolines. Together, these components form a compact, yet versatile sports zone where users can play basketball, perform strength and functional exercises, or move freely.
The sports zone is used by HC Athena, football club GeuzenMiddenmeer and the after-school care of Woest Zuid. This means that the location offers space for club sports, childcare, education-related activities and free movement.
