What is discus throw?

Discus throw is a throwing event within athletics where a round disc, the discus, is thrown as far as possible with one arm from a fixed circle. Due to the speed and force with which the discus is thrown, safety is an important aspect. Therefore, the throwing area is always surrounded by a discus cage. A discus cage is a protective enclosure that protects athletes, spectators, and other sportspeople from errant throws.
