Spectator Sightlines

A stadium dugout differs fundamentally from a standard model due to the shape of its frame and its construction. In a stadium, sightlines play a crucial role. Spectators seated behind the dugout must not have an obstructed view of the field. This means that the shape and construction are fully adapted to the available space and the sightlines from the stands.

Ample seating and capacity

In addition to sightlines, a stadium dugout must offer enough space for a complete selection of players and staff members. This requires a well-thought-out layout and often greater capacity than on amateur fields. Two good examples of this are the custom dugouts for Cambuur and the KNVB Campus in Zeist. Both designs feature a double row of seats.

High-quality comfort for players and staff

While standard models often feature wooden benches or simple bucket seats, the bar in a stadium is set much higher. These dugouts are usually equipped with comfortable business seats, in club colors and featuring the club logo. With the latest variants, seat heating is even an option.

Design in line with the stadium

Finally, appearance plays an important role. A stadium dugout must seamlessly align with the club's style and identity. This requires customization and a different approach than with standard dugouts. From the shape of the frame to the finishing of the seats. Each dugout is designed and produced in line with the club's and stadium's appearance.

Stadium Dugouts

A dugout is essential in every professional football stadium. While a standard football dugout for amateur clubs is often simple in design, a stadium requires a completely different approach. When designing, you need to consider construction, comfort, and appearance. All choices are tailored to the requirements of the stadium and the club. Curious how SKOR handles this? Then read on.

What is a stadium dugout?

A stadium dugout is a luxurious and spacious player's bench placed directly next to the field. One of the most important considerations for a stadium dugout is the sightlines from the stands. Spectators behind the dugout must always have an unobstructed view of the field, which means the shape of the frame is fully adapted to this. When installing standard dugouts, this is almost never a contributing factor.

The difference between a standard and a stadium dugout

A stadium dugout differs from a standard version in several ways. The type of users and the location play an important role here. The main differences are:

  • Capacity: where a dugout along an amateur field usually offers space for 6 to 8 people, this is very different in a stadium. In official KNVB matches, 23 players may be on the match sheet. This means that a stadium dugout must have enough seats for substitute players and the technical staff. To achieve that capacity, dugouts in the stadium are often made longer, or provided with double rows of seats.
  • Comfort: a standard dugout is usually equipped with simple wooden benches or bucket seats. In a stadium dugout, the comfort level goes a step further, with luxury business seats often being the standard.
  • Appearance: a stadium dugout is more than a functional bench. It is an extension of the club identity. The design must seamlessly match the style and appearance of the stadium. The better the dugout fits the club's corporate identity and atmosphere, the stronger and more professional the overall experience will be.

How SKOR customises dugouts for the stadium

At SKOR, customisation is always central. Especially with a stadium dugout, this is an essential part of the process. Together with the club or stadium, we analyse the available space, the sightlines, and the wishes regarding capacity, comfort, and design. The final design is fully adapted to the situation on site. We use high-quality materials and take into account sustainability and ease of maintenance.

We guide every step of the process, from the initial design to production and delivery. This ensures you receive a final product that seamlessly matches the expectations and identity of the stadium.

At SKOR, we ensure that the installation is carried out with attention to safety and the correct finish. Thanks to years of experience in stadiums, our specialised technicians know exactly how a dugout should be installed.

Special dugouts for fourth officials

In addition to dugouts for players and staff, we also supply special dugouts for fourth officials. These are smaller in size but offer all the functionalities needed during matches. They often feature a workbench, provisions for communication equipment, and a roof that provides protection against the elements. As with the player dugouts, we also provide customisation here that matches the stadium.
