Everything you need to know about fixed football goals

Written by Maud Vreman | published 5 September 2025

Fixed football goals are the standard at almost every sports park or stadium. They are firmly anchored in the ground, allowing players to train and play matches safely without the goal shifting. Nevertheless, fixed goals are never exactly the same. In this blog, we explain the choices available and what you should look out for.

What is a fixed football goal?

A fixed football goal distinguishes itself from portable variants by having a permanent spot on the field. The frame is firmly anchored in the ground with ground sockets, ensuring it remains reliable for years. Fixed goals are available in various models and dimensions, tailored for use by amateur clubs, municipalities, or professional football organizations.

What models are available?

For fixed football goals, there are broadly two main models:

WK target (cage model)

The so-called World Cup goal, also known as the cage model, can be recognized by its closed construction. Thanks to tension poles and a tensioning set, the net always remains taut. This model is often used in stadiums, where appearance and professionalism are important.

P-model target

The P-model is recognizable by its characteristic 'P' shape, hanging just behind the goal. This model is lighter and more practical, making it popular with clubs and training facilities.

Do you want to know which sizes the goals are available in? On the fixed football goals page, all variants are clearly listed together, from youth sizes to official match goals.

The different methods of net attachment

For both models, you can choose from two types of net attachment. This determines how the goal net remains securely and safely in the goal.

  • Milled net attachment: a groove is milled into the aluminum. The net is placed in this groove and sealed with a rubber cord. This solution looks sleek and is very reliable, ensuring the net stays firmly in place.
  • Net strip: the net is clamped into an aluminum profile. A simple solution that allows for quick maintenance and is therefore very user-friendly.

Corner joints: welded or coupled?

In addition to net attachment, fixed goals are available with different corner joints. This determines how the intersections of the goal are attached to each other.

  • Welded corner joint: the corners are firmly welded together. This ensures extra stability and a long service life. With this type of joint, you can use either a milled net attachment or a net strip.
  • Coupled corner joint: the corners are detachably attached to each other. This makes the goal flexible in transport and assembly. Please note that only a net strip can be used with this design, as a milled net attachment is not possible here.

What customization options are available for fixed football goals?

A fixed football goal is a serious investment for a club. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider the design that best suits your situation. Thanks to the many customization options, each goal can be fully tailored to the wishes of the club or stadium. Below, we explain all the choices.

Net brackets

A net bracket attaches to the frame of a goal and allows the goal net to be folded up. This has two major advantages: the pitch can be maintained more easily, and the net lasts longer because it is not constantly under tension.

At SKOR, we offer three types of net brackets, each with its own characteristics:

Variants

Features

Application

ComFix net bracket

Net is fixed once and stays firmly in place, even with intensive use

Popular in sports parks and stadiums, low maintenance

Net bracket with net bushes

Net fastened with rope to aluminum bushes

Traditional, solid and easy to maintain

Net bracket with tube frame

Lightweight, demountable, net is threaded through the tube

Practical and flexible, ideal for sports parks

Ground Sockets

Permanent goals are always anchored in the ground with ground sockets. This ensures the frame is stable and cannot shift. There are two versions: with or without a base plate.

  • A ground socket without a base plate is suitable for standard use.
  • A ground socket with a base plate provides extra stability, as the plates prevent the sockets from rotating in the ground.

Tension Poles

Tension poles are optional for World Cup goals (cage models). They ensure that the goal net remains tightly stretched backward. Two tension poles are installed as standard, but a third tension pole can be added for an extra professional look. This third pole is placed in the middle behind the goal and distributes the tension evenly across the net. Like the goals themselves, tension poles are also anchored with ground sockets to ensure they remain stable.

Goal nets

The goal net largely determines the appearance of a permanent goal. For example, you can choose a completely white net with a neutral look, or a version in club colours that exudes professionalism and recognisability. The thread thickness and mesh size are also decisive: smaller meshes and thicker threads make the net stronger and more durable. As a result, the net remains beautiful and functional for longer, even with intensive use.

The right goal for your club

A permanent football goal may seem like a standard product, but in practice there are countless choices to be made. From the model to the net attachment, the corner connections and the customisation options: every detail contributes to ease of use and appearance. By carefully considering these options, you are not just investing in a goal, but in a sustainable solution that offers years of enjoyment and reliability for players and supporters.
