Thread thickness
Football goal nets are available in different thread thicknesses: 3 mm, 4 mm, and 5 mm. The thicker the thread, the stronger and more durable the net. Thicker nets therefore last longer, especially with intensive use.
Mesh size
The mesh size is the distance between two adjacent threads and determines the size of the openings in the net. For goal nets, mesh sizes of 4.5 cm, 10 cm, and 12 cm are common:
- 4.5 cm: suitable for small goals, often for youth players. Reduces the risk of vandalism, as it is harder to climb into.
- 10 cm: widely used for medium to large goals.
- 12 cm: standard for large goals during official matches. Suitable for high speeds and repeated impact from balls.
In short: the smaller the mesh size and the thicker the thread, the sturdier and more durable the goal net.
